ship beacon

Mar. 19, 2024 I want to consult

The following types of beacons are commonly used on ships:

Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB): A beacon that can emit radio signals. It uses the radio frequency signals it emits to indicate its position and status, so that search and rescue units can accurately determine its location. It is an important ship-to-shore alarm device in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).

Radar Reflector: A device that reflects radar waves and is used to increase the visibility of ships on radar screens to prevent collisions or assist in search and rescue operations.

Buoy: A marker floating on the water, used to indicate the nature of the water, the direction of the channel, the position of the ship, etc.

Smoke Signal: A method of using the smoke produced by combustion as a signal, used to send out distress signals or indicate wind direction when in distress at sea.

Generally speaking, different beacon models cannot be used interchangeably because they have different functions, characteristics and applicable occasions. For example, EPIRB is used to send out positioning signals in times of distress, while radar reflectors are used to improve the radar visibility of ships. They cannot replace each other.
