should marine air conditioners be defrosted

Jan. 15, 2024 I want to consult

The reason why marine air conditioners are defrosted is because in heating mode, the fin temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger is relatively low, usually below 0°C, which will form ice on the fins, affecting the heat exchange efficiency and heating effect.

There are several methods for defrosting marine air conditioners:

Electric defrost: An electric heating wire is installed between the fins of the outdoor heat exchanger. When frost is detected, the electric heating wire is automatically started to heat, melt the frost, and then discharge it. This method of defrosting is fast, but consumes a lot of power, and is generally used for small air conditioners.

Hot gas reverse flow defrost: Install a four-way valve between the compressor and the outdoor heat exchanger. When frost is detected, the four-way valve is automatically switched so that the high-temperature and high-pressure gas from the compressor directly enters the outdoor heat exchanger to melt the frost. , and then discharge. This method has good defrosting effect, but will reduce heating efficiency. It is generally used for medium and large air conditioners.

Air circulation defrost: Install a fan at the air outlet of the outdoor heat exchanger. When frost is detected, the fan will automatically start to blow outdoor air into the outdoor heat exchanger to melt the frost and then discharge it. This method of defrosting is simple, but the effect is unstable and is affected by the outside temperature. It is generally used to assist defrosting.

The defrosting time of marine air conditioners is generally 8-12 minutes each time. It is recommended not to shut down or unplug the power supply. After the defrost is completed, the machine will automatically start heating. If ice forms on the evaporator or expansion valve, stop the machine in time to defrost, and determine the refrigerant throttling position based on the frost/ice position. It usually appears at the expansion valve, which may be caused by stuck expansion valve.
